When someone is presented with the concept of a Zimbabwean musician, one wouldn’t necessarily imagine a sound called Passion-Pop. Currently located in Denmark, Ryan Koriya, dubbed ‘The Soul Mechanic’ who releases a new EP on Monday the 9th of January 2017, has indeed started the New Year on a high note.
Multi-talented Ryan, composes, records, sings, produces, plays instruments and much more all by himself. He is a one man band and one man record label, complete with admin and management all done in-house. Koriya is a musical genius who reminds me of the late Prince.

His music is phenomenal. It’s hard to believe that he hails from a humble African nation such as Zimbabwe. He is definitely in a class of his own when considering the Zim musical landscape.
“Passion-Pop singer, songwriter and producer Ryan released his first EP in 2012 which he titled ‘London’s Burning’. He now re-releases the E.P under a new name… Mirrors Don’t Work In The Dark, named after the 4th song on the EP” says his Press Release.

Ryan describes the EP as, “A hearty remedy of soothing, for the preoccupied modern soul.”
“The majority of the songs were recorded in Harare and in Vic Falls Zimbabwe. The final track called ‘London’s Burning’ was recorded in Vic Falls and you can hear the overhead ‘Flight of The Angels’ helicopters at the very end along with some of the staff sweeping outside my door. I added chimes from Big Ben to trick people into thinking the scene is actually playing out in London with news/police helicopters etc.”

This super-focused musician has been performing almost daily throughout the festive season and has also been busy working on his new website which he recently launched to match the new release.
Koriya has recently toured ten countries in thirteen weeks, promoting his latest single ‘Drowning in Space’. The music video (on YouTube) is a colourful account of his vibrant nature and global touring. Some of the countries include Denmark, South Africa, Sweden, Germany and Zimbabwe just to mention a few. ‘Drowning In Space’ will be released as a global single on February the 3rd 2017 to celebrate his birthday.
