There’s a time when Africa was one. When we sang the same anthem. When we were so much in love with her beauty, Mama Africa.
There’s a time when Africa Day was a big deal. A time when another person from another African nation was a brother, a sister, a mother, a father…
There’s a time we prayed for our motherland, Afrika. There’s a time we vowed never ending allegiances with her, this strong black and beautiful Queen. The one whose breasts fed queens and kings whose names we seem to have forgotten. King Shaka Zulu, King Mzilikazi, Mbuya Nehanda naSekuru Kaguvi… Queen Nandi… Have we forgotten them so soon? Samora Machel, Patrice Lumumba, Chris Hani, Eduardo Mondelane, Josiah Tongogara, Joshua Nkomo, Thomas Sankara, Steve Biko and Leopold Senghor among others.
Did we bury them in graves we sealed with black consciousness? What happened to the ties that bound us as Africans? Whatever became of the African National Unity?
African man, African woman, do you remember who you are?
Remember where you come from
Take pride in your black skin sister of mine. Take pride in your mother language brother of mine. This land, Africa is our home regardless of nation, tribe or creed.
Be proud to be an Afrikan
Nkosi sikeleli Africa
Ishe Komborera Africa
God bless Africa
