Seeing that everyone is writing an open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa, let me also write mine. Well, because I’m not a celebrity like the other writers, this one will not go viral and the president of SA will never read it nevertheless, write I will!
Dear Mr President,
I can only imagine how tough it is to carry the whole nation on your shoulders. It’s tough enough being a class teacher of 40 children, it’s worse being the school principal, let alone the President of the entire country! I use the example of a teacher because I am one, that’s familiar ground to me. And wooo, is it mission impossible! What I’m trying to say is, it ain’t easy being you! So, Mr President, I salute you and all your efforts.
You might not get everything right, but you are only human. I would advice you to pray, put your trust only in God. Ask Him for guidance. He is the only One who can help you because, while you only have one country, He has the whole world! Don’t ever think that you can make it alone. Above all, remember, never be proud. God humbles the proud and he gives more grace to the humble. Read the story of King Nebuchadnezzar from Daniel 4. He is the God who anoints kings and who causes kings to graze grass like cattle.
I am from Zimbabwe, I remember long back we used to sing Ishe Komborera Africa. Then we changed the anthem, we now sing Simudzai Mureza weZimbabwe (Lift High The Banner of Zimbabwe). Back then, I saw nothing wrong with the change, but today, looking back, I realise that we stopped praying for Africa when we stopped singing Ishe Komborera Africa. Africa needs to unite, we need to come together as one and pray for Africa. We must continue to sing Ishe Komborera Africa, Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrica. And I commend you for not changing the anthem, please don’t change it. However, would you please consider making Africa Day a public holiday? I understand that the country already has many holidays, but please do consider this.
In closure, has someone told you lately that they love you? We all need to hear that once in a while. There is so much fighting and so much hatred in the world. We got to start spreading some love, some sunshine, some happiness…. It starts with me. Allow me to say, I love you. I will pray for you, your family and all the presidents of Africa. These are indeed trying times for the whole world.
May God increase you in wisdom and compassion. May He increase grace upon you. May God guide and keep you. May God protect you and be with you.
God bless you.
