How do we celebrate Father’s Day?

That’s a photo of a little 3year old girl that has gone viral on social media. It is reported that she went missing only to be discovered dead and dumped in this laundry basket. It’s not sure if she was raped or not.

My question is, how on earth do we celebrate Father’s day when we’re crying for our murdered sisters and daughters. Our brutally killed mothers and grandmothers…. How do we celebrate Father’s Day? When our lips are uttering elegies for lives cut short in senseless killings of women in our society. How?

The little girl was 3years old, still just a baby. What could she have done to deserve such an end to her young life. She’s gone, not having known what a school is. She’s gone, not having known what it’s like being a teenager. She’s gone, without her mother by her side, but dying at the hands of a cruel monster not deserving of the name ‘man’, she’s gone, before her life even started. She has joined the many women who have been murdered in our land. How do we celebrate Father’s Day?

Her laughter in the family no longer heard. Even her cries for attention, now in the not so distant past. Mothers and fathers are outraged by such a murder. The plucking out of a flower before it bloomed. We’re no longer afraid of the coronavirus, only of the men in our midst. Tell me how do we celebrate Father’s Day?
