“Sister, I have prayed for the past one week and fasted, at the same time doing every casual manual job I could find to avoid being locked out of the house due to rent arrears, but it happened this morning. The landlord won’t take anything less than the whole amount, it’s frustrating.”

These were the words a single mother in Kenya said to me this morning on WhatsApp.
Her name is Esther Shawitsa Spira, a 36year old now homeless mother of a 4-year-old girl. Esther lives in Loitoktok, Kenya with her daughter. She was recently diagnosed with Stage 1 colon cancer, consequently, all her savings have since been going to pay medical bills, “I am less of 2800 shillings. I have not been able to pay my rent for the past 2 months due to the expenses of medication. I have stage 1 colon cancer.” she said.
Esther said that she has nowhere to go since her entire family and relatives disowned her after she converted to Christianity from Islam.
“I have no idea what will become of me an my daughter. I am just trusting in God for a miracle.”
This is quite heartbreaking, just knowing that a woman and her daughter are homeless somewhere in Kenya.
