Hey hey! Welcome to Afrique Beat, my blog on various things on the African continent. My name is Constance van Niekerk aka Connie V. This blog started as Upclose and Personal with Zim Artists. After two years of working on it, I felt it was time to grow from only concentrating on Zimbabwean musicians to a wider spectrum. It became L’Afrique Beat (don’t ask! 😂) Now we have Afrique Beat! On this blog, I talk about almost everything African. African culture, lifestyle, music, television, film, old school music and television and literature.
I’m an African woman, born and bred in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. In 2007, I relocated to South Africa and in 2012, re-ignited my love for writing through freelancing for The Southern Times (Namibia). In 2013, I had a short stint at freelancing for The Herald, Zimbabwe. It is my wish to make the blog bigger and better and I hope I have achieved it. Above all, I wish to share my love for the arts with the whole world. Enjoy your stay, hope you come back again and again and again!
